The Lord is risen!
To Jesus “all the prophets bear witness” (v.43a). Peter said of the apostles, “We are witnesses” (v.39a). Like them all, we too today are called. We are “witnesses chosen by God in advance” (v.41b). Though we are not among those “who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead” (v.41c), our task is the same, “to preach to the people and testify that he is the one appointed by God as judge of the living and the dead.” (v.42b). This is the Great Commission, and Jesus has “commissioned us” (v.42a).
We are commissioned to be witnesses, and in this we are empowered to witness. “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the holy Spirit and power.” (v.38). Now Jesus said that as the Father had sent him, so he sends us. Thus he empowers us with his Spirit. As the Holy Spirit has come down to us, we received power to be witnesses to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8).
Jesus has finished his earthly ministry. He has died for us and has risen from the dead. He has won salvation for all, and “everyone who believes in him will receive forgiveness of sins through his name.” (v.43b). Go and proclaim that good news.
He is risen indeed! Hallelujah!
God bless you.
